THE TUG of war between players and West Indian Cricket Board over contract and payment has finally been resolved. The issue was settled after a three day long marathon meeting between players’ representative Dinanath Ramnaraine and WICB chief Julian Hunte.
The three month old issue saw many ups and downs with the warring factions holding each other responsible for the standoff. During the cold war none of the faction showed leniency and WICB had to field second string team not only in the home series but also in the prestigious Champions Trophy.
In the home series against minnows of cricket Bangladesh, West Indies team was beaten badly with Bangladesh winning both Test and One Day series convincingly. In the recently concluded Champions Trophy they were ousted in the first round itself without winning any of their matches and were often easy meat to opponents.
In a joint statement to media both the parties said “They are on the edge of finding solution for the disputed contract problem, both parties are pleased that the agreement reached creates an environment to engage in building a genuine partnership that can ensure the long-term development and progress of West Indies cricket," the statement said.
According to sources today again both the factions will converge to find solutions for some other outstanding issues. With all outstanding issues set to settled West Indies Cricket Board according to sources will select and field a full strength West Indies team for the forthcoming tough Australian tour.
